The Mowry family has a long history with Pittsburgh and the University of Pittsburgh. Robert B. was born in 1813, graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1834 and opened a medical practice in the city. His son, William, graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1871 and was active in establishing Allegheny General Hospital. His son, Robert B.
